LLCC Loggers Win 8-5 and 7-4

The Lincoln Land baseball Loggers (14-9) hosted the Blazers from John Wood Community College on Friday afternoon in a Midwest Athletic Conference double header.

In game one, the Loggers took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the 1st inning when Conor White (2 for 4) doubled in Tyler Ring (3 for 5) and would score on Xavier Collier's (3 for 5) RBI single to left. The lead would not last long as the Blazers answered with a run in the top of the 2nd to tie the game, added another in the 3rd, and plated two in the 4th inning for a 5-2 lead. The Loggers would answer in their half of the 4th inning with 4 runs, regaining the lead for good on Ring's and White's back to back two-run singles. Lincoln Land picked up two more insurance runs in the the 5th and 6th innings on Peyton Minder's (2 for 3) single and Collier's double.

Lincoln Land starting pitcher Ben Hecht (4-0) would pick up the win as he battled through his 5 innings of work. Hecht surrendered all 5 Blazer runs, 4 earned, on 8 hits and 5 walks, he struck out 4. Sophomore southpaw Matt Tomazzoli came on to pitch in the top of the 6th and it was the last pitcher the Loggers would need. After a lead off walk to Blazer lead off man Hudson Holden, Tomazzoli picked Holden off and went on to strike out the next 7 batters he faced. Tomazzoli closed in out in the 9th to earn a four inning save, his first of the season, and secured the 8-5 win for the Loggers.

In game two, the Blazers out hit the Loggers 10-8, but Lincoln Land would go on to sweep the double header with a 7-4 victory. Ryan Arnold (3-1) threw a complete game to earn the win for the Loggers. Arnold gave up 4 early runs in the first three innings but settled down to halt the Blazer's scoring. He finished with the game with 11 strikeouts and walked only one.

Lincoln Land scored 5 runs in the 2nd inning on 7 hits and a walk. Sam Anderson and Tyler Ring had RBI doubles in the inning and Tyler Borski and Conor White drove in a run apiece with their singles. Sophomore catcher Jake Morsch (2 for 2) drove in Ben Hecht in the bottom of the 4th inning with his line drive single to right. The Loggers also added a run in the inning when Tyler Borski stole home.

The Loggers will travel to Quincy tomorrow to finish the four game conference series against John Wood, the first game will start at 1pm.
