Illinois Central College - 75
LLCC - 69
The Lincoln Land Men's Basketball team dropped their third in a row to the Cougars of Illinois Central College, 75-69.
The Loggers scored the first bucket of the game and that ended up being Lincoln Land's only lead. Lincoln Land struggled to score the ball and had lapses on defense that gave ICC easy buckets. The Loggers trailed by as many as 11 points in the first half and trailed 40-32 at half.
Lincoln Land made a run to get back into the game and got within a point at 47-46. Illinois Central responded with a 13-0 run. ICC's lead was pushed out as many as 18 with 5:51 left in the game. Lincoln Land was able to storm back and cut the lead to four and had possession of the ball. However, a few missed shots by LLCC allowed the Cougars to secure the win with a few made free throws. Missed shots doomed the Loggers all night, who went 5 for 24 from behind the arc on a lot of good, open looks.
"This is the second game in a row where we have had a long stretch of playing foolish defense and playing with no emotion," stated Coach Chad Jones following the loss. "We work hard to get back in the game and then allowed them some leak out lay ups to push the lead right out. We have the talent to win a lot of games, but sometimes we don't play with the fire we need to. That is disappointing."
Sophomore Eddie Longmeyer led all scorers with 29 and pulled in 13 rebounds for a double double. Freshman Jacob Knox had a solid effort of 11 points and 8 rebounds. Freshman Harold Robertson added 11 points.
Lincoln Land falls out of first place in their league and falls to 16-12 on the year and 4-4 in conference. They will try to get back to winning against Parkland at their last home game of the year Wednesday night.
