Soph. Talesha Scott
LLCC bounced back from a close first set loss to defeat #10 Illinois Central in four sets Wednesday at Cass Gymnasium. The Loggers gave up a big 13-6 lead early, squandering a run of Talesha Scott kills at the end, losing on a bang-bang play. The team recovered in set two, streaking to a 9-1 lead, extending it with a Kendall Knop run of serves and two kills by Addie Patton, winning 25-12. The score in the third set alternated back and forth until 16-16 when aggressive Brea Cunningham serves and a clutch kill by Kiersten Anderson won out, 25-21. The final set also see-sawed going to 13 when the Loggers built a five point lead on ICC errors. LLCC returned the favor and the game was tied at 19, alternating again until the Loggers eventually survived 26-24.
"It's that time of year—playoff ball. We had the first set won, and then let it slip away. You can't do that against top 10 teams, though we recovered well. I don't think ICC expected the surge at the start of the second game," stated Coach Dietz. "I also didn't realize until going through things this morning that Talesha set our kills record for a match this weekend against Lewis & Clark with 24—so I want to give 'T' a shout-out for that. That's nice work."
