LLCC started off slow out of the gate, drawing the first match of the day at Parkland's Invitational, a 9am game against Kansas' best team, #3 Johnson County who had given LLCC its first defeat earlier this year. This match proved no different as Johnson came out strong, with a run of five kills at 14-14 to open a 19-14 lead in game one, eventually winning 25-18. Game two was close with LLCC holding leads at 14-10 and 19-14, but behind their all-American candidate setter, JCCC tied the game at 21, then ripped off four more points to win 25-21. In game three, the Loggers used a different lineup and played well, but Johnson was too much, earning the sweep with a 25-15 victory. "We were sluggish this morning. It looked like we just rolled out of bed and onto the court. Unfortunately, that was how we practiced yesterday--and we discussed that. If you want to compete with great teams, you have to practice that intensity, that work ethic. We'll get there; it's a learning experience," Coach Dietz said after the game.

Sarah Mueller
The second match of the day was against Indiana's Vincennes University and the Loggers came out fast to earn a sweep. At 5-5 in the first game, Sarah Mueller ran off nine straight points to open a 14-5 lead and allowed the Loggers to cruise 25-14. In game two, LLCC enjoyed hot hitting by sophomore Brenna Perinar, leading from the first point to earn a 25-15 win. In the third, the Loggers saw key contributions from the freshmen on the squad as Kaley Hennings scored three aces while Michelle Ulrich had a near-perfect performance in serve-receive as the libero. LLCC again enjoyed a nine-point run from Sarah Mueller serving and won the match with a final 25-14 victory. "I was glad we came out with focus after the first match. We carried a different attitude with us into the match and I think Vincennes was just unfortunate to be the next team up for us. Now we've got a quick turnaround as we play another ranked team tomorrow in #11 Kirkwood and then a quality team from Michigan in Jackson CC."
