Logger Volleyball Finishes 2nd at Johnson County Tournament

1630
Tiffany Sunderlin collects her 4th Double-Double in four matches.

LLCC opened day two of the Johnson County tournament against #15 Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC).  The Loggers came out sluggish, falling behind quickly 6-1.  Even after a timeout, the gap widened to 11-3 before the Loggers righted things, tying the game at 15 and eventually winning 25-21.  Game two saw LLCC fall behind 5-0 before storming back to take a big lead 19-13 which then disappeared  with an aggressive KCKCC serving run that the Loggers could not recover from, losing game two 25-23.  Games three and four were all Lincoln Land as the Loggers were paced by Tiffany Sunderlin's 18 kills and Hannah Ohlsen's 9 (hitting at a .573 clip).  Sunderlin and Brenna Perinar both posted double-doubles (Sunderlin with 18 kills and 22 digs while Perinar had 10 kills and 12 digs).

LLCC ended the tournament with a title on the line playing the host school, Johnson County, ranked #13 in the nation.  LLCC and Johnson traded points to 13-13 before a controversial call swung momentum away from the Loggers, leading to a six point JCCC run that remained steady the rest of the way as LLCC lost 20-25.  In the second game, it was more of the same, though LLCC was able to take the lead 21-20 before losing 22-25.  In the third game, the Loggers switched the lineup, but to no avail as Kansas' best D-2 squad came out for a killer blow and succeeded, pulling away quickly for a 25-12 third set win.  Playing only two games, Sunderlin picked up her fourth double-double, notching 10 kills and 10 digs, sharing the lead for kills with Talesha Scott.

"We learn a lot playing top teams.  This weekend we were up and down, prone to streaks of errors from time to time.  Against KCK, we were able to recover.  I know one of the officials was wondering when I was going to call a timeout, but I didn't.  I told the girls they can fight through anything, and they did.?  Against Johnson, we have a couple players who are a little banged uip and after JCCC pulled out the second game, we switched our lineup to give them some rest.  Could we have won game three?  Sure, but it is a long season ahead and ultimately, player health is more important in the long run.  Johnson's a great team and very aggressive, especially gfiven it was their home court, but we have to deal with that as we've got some tough road matches coming up with our Region schedule."
