The Loggers win opening match at the Parkland Invite defeating Vincennes 3-1.
LLCC started slow in Game One, missing four of its first five serves as both sides sided out until 11-11. At that point, a net violation and ball handling error by LLCC gave Vincennes a lead that they didn't relinquish on their way to a 25-21 victory. In game two, LLCC was able to take Vincennes out of their system from the start, putting together two runs of points, sparked by two kills by freshman Hannah Ohlsen, as LLCC won 25-21. The third game saw Lincoln Land jump out to a quick 8-3 lead behind the offense of Tiffany Sunderlin on her way to her match-high 18 kills and defense by Brittani Tabbert who notched her fifth double-double of the season. The deciding game saw Lincoln Land take a large lead, 16-10, but five unforced errors consecutively allowed Vincennes to tie the game at 16. Vincennes held the lead as the two teams sided-out through 21-20 before LLCC too a 23-21 lead. Three kills by Vincennes gave the Indiana squad a chance at game point and sending the match to five games, but a kill by Sunderlin from the right-side made it a 24-24. The Loggers then scored two points on unforced Vincennes errors to win the match.
Coach Jim Dietz commented after the first match of the day, "Up and down...the funny thing is that at the end of game one, the girls were saying, 'Yeah, we just needed to warm up...we've got this.' I tried to explain coming back against good teams is difficult and we can't dig ourselves 0-1 holes. I'm glad we did come out and stopped the errors, but it sure adds to the gray in my hair."
