The Loggers traveled to East Peoria today to take on region foe the Cougars of Illinois Central College. LLCC won game one 9-3 but losing the second game 3-11. The Cougars scored first with 2 runs in the bottom of the first, but the Loggers answered with 3 run in the top of the second inning. Sophomore pitcher Katie Lange threw a superb again allowing only 3 runs on 4 hits and striking out 5 hitters. Lange held the big bats of ICC silent until the 6th inning where she gave up 1 run. The Loggers tallied up an additional 6 runs on steady hitting from Lauren Windisch (4-for-5) and power from Torey Sorensen and Rachel Wisner who both collected home runs to support team.
ICC came back in game two looking to have revenge for game one and they did by scoring 9 runs in the bottom of the first inning. Starting pitcher Claire Dubree was lifted after one inning by Morgan Smith. Dubree gave up 8 hits and home run in the first inning. The Loggers down by 4 runs and 2 outs, LLCC committed a fielding error and a dropped ball that should have taken them out of the inning, instead ICC drove in 5 additional runs to take the big lead. Morgan Smith gave up 2 runs in her 3 innings of work. LLCC answered with 1 run in the 3rd inning and two more in the 4th. Dubree was the losing pitcher for LLCC and Erica Phillips was the winning pitcher for ICC. Rachel Wisner and Melinda Wilson were the only Loggers with multiple hits.
Lincoln Land is now 36-9 on the season and will travel to Quincy to take on John Wood CC in a doubleheader starting at 3 pm.
