The Lincoln Land Men's Basketball team kicked off their season on Friday in Chicago against Elgin Community College Spartans. The Loggers eventually fell to the Spartans 49-42 in the first game in the Truman College Classic.
Lincoln Land struggled early and fell behind by as much as 13 points in the first half. The Loggers struggled to score early, only putting up 16 points by half. The second half proved better for Lincoln Land as they stormed all the way back and took a lead in the last four minutes of the game. With the game tied at 41, Elgin knocked in a three with 1:30 left that proved to be the dagger. Lincoln Land was unable to overcome the deficit and eventually fell 49-42.
The Loggers have offensive struggles throughout the night. The Loggers shot only 28% from the field (17-61) and 17% (4/24) from three while committing 16 turnovers. Freshman Eddie Longmeyer led the Loggers with 13 and also pulled down a team high 9 boards. Justin Thomas added in 11. Matt Chaltin of Elgin led all scorers with 22.
"I was disappointed with our effort early on. We came out flat and struggled to do what we worked on. However, we were able to put some good things together in the second half. We made simple mistakes that hurt us and those are simple things to fix it", stated Coach Chad Jones following the loss.
Lincoln Land takes the floor again tomorrow at 3:00 against host Truman College.
