Loggers Lose to the Hawks 2-1 in OT

Bloomington, IL –
Lincoln Land Community College soccer team played even in regulation play only to lose 2-1 in overtime to Heartland Community College.  Earlier this year the Loggers lost to Heartland 5-2 before forfeiting the game due to playing an ineligible player.

The Loggers came out very focused and dominated with 90% of the possessions. Despite the determined efforts of the Loggers neither team were able to score.

The Loggers started the second half with the same intensity as the first.  Fifteen in to the half, LLCC scored the first goal when Andrew Slater made a perfect pass to Naba Alzhyri who put the ball in the side of the netting and the lead 1-0.
LLCC continued to dominate and create chances which included an open goal miss.

Second year Coach Shawn Dunas stated "We just couldn't seem to put the second goal to finish them off.  Anytime you leave a team with a goal scorer in the match it's dangerous."  That danger came to light in the 30th minute of the second half.   Heartland scored on a counter attack to even the score 1-1. LLCC still continued to dominate play creating a few more scoring opportunities.  The Loggers failed to capitalize on their opportunities and the second half ended the same as the first in a draw.

NJCAA rules requires two sudden death overtimes. Six minutes into the first overtime the Hawks got their second and final counter attack of the match resulting in a 2-1 logger defeat. This makes the 4th loggers loss in a row on a one goal differential.

Coach Dunas stated, "We got very unlucky. The boys definitely deserved to win that match. Unfortunately we couldn't finish our opportunities today.   The Naba Alzhyri goal was gorgeous but we had three other opportunities that definitely should have resulted in goals. This was a very tough loss. We will work on our finishing and defending counters to prepare for east central and our last 5 regular season matches. All the other pieces are there. We just need to fine tune a little more. I believe in these boys 100%. We will be ready by the end for a regional run."

LLCC is now 6-7 on the year and they will face East Central College on Sunday, October 5th.
