The Loggers Are Eliminated from Play at Nationals

The Loggers win their first game on Thursday against Cuyahoga Community College 11-2.  They advanced to face Illinois Central (Region 24 Champs).  Game two was a thrilling game that eliminated the Loggers from the NJCAA National Tournament by losing to the Cougars 5-4. 
 
Game 1 – Lincoln Land scored 11 runs on 9 hits to defeat the Challengers of Cuyahoga.  Payton Billups led the Loggers offensively going 2-for-2 and 4 RBI.  Billups belted a game ending home run (3 RBI) in the 5th inning.  Torey Sorensen and Lauren Windisch also had 2 hits apiece.  Katie Lange was the winning pitcher.  Lange went 4.67 innings allowing 2 runs on 7 hits.  Morgan Smith relieved Lange to finish the game.

Game 2 – The Loggers took an early lead 3-1 against the Cougars until they responded to take the lead 5-3 in the 6th inning.  The Loggers scored 1 run in the bottom of the 6th to close the gap 5-4.  The Loggers failed to score in the 7th inning losing to the Cougars 5-4 in the elimination bracket.  Payton Billups again led the Loggers in hitting.  Billups went 3-for-4 with her second home run (2 RBI) of the day.  Chantel Jennings, Lauren Windisch and Laura Bonds also added 2 hits each.  Whitley Baker was the losing pitcher.  Baker went 7 innings allowing 8 hits and 1 strikeout.

The Loggers finished the season 29-27 and in the top 12 at Nationals.
