The Loggers' run at a Region XXIV championship was stopped today by the Lynx of Lincoln College. The Lynx overcame the scoring power of LLCC by outscoring the Loggers, 5-3. The match began with Lincoln scoring their first goal with less than two minutes gone on a corner kick which bounced in as the ball hit the bottom of the cross bar. Minutes later, the Lynx scored their second goal off a cross to the far post past the outstretched arms of goalie Ubaldo Olvera.
Mother Nature took a turn at altering the game with some lightning and rain, which caused a delay in the match. When action resumed, the Loggers scored quickly when Harry White found Connor Carnduff the ball, which led to the Logger's first goal.
As Logger momentum began to build, lightning struck again, causing yet another 30 minute delay. The Loggers came out on fire when play resumed again and scored their second goal from Harry White with an assist from Juan Pineda. Darwin Soto then assisted on Harry White's 26th and final goal of the 2013 season minutes before the half ended. First half play ended with the Loggers up 3-2.
Second half play consisted of Lincoln having the majority of possession and multiple scoring opportunities. Lincoln was awarded multiple free kicks and corner kicks before finally penetrating the Loggers' net on a well-placed free kick to knot the match 3-3. Minutes later Lincoln struck again putting them back in the lead. Then with ten minutes left in the half, Lincoln scored their 5
th goal and final goal ending the Loggers' hopes at hosting a championship game.
The top seeded Loggers ended their season with a 15-4 record and ranked 19th in the Nation. Coach Dunas stated, "In every game there has to be a winner and a loser. However, in my opinion, today we were neither. Though we didn't get the result, we still grew from a loss and our program still continued to move forward. We endured a loss, yet we took it with charisma and integrity." First year Coach Shawn Dunas reflected on the makeup of his team, "I could not be more proud of these boys and their accomplishments. I would not have traded this team for any other team to coach this year and I also wouldn't have traded these last few months with these young men for anything in the world. I thank these guys for their efforts in building a program this year and each one of them has not only earned my respect but also the respect of the soccer community. These young men are truly gentlemen."
