Normal, IL – Over two inches of rain this past weekend at Claude Kracik field in Springfield forced LLCC baseball to move their home double header to the Corn Crib to play the Heartland Hawks. The Loggers were swept by the Hawks 17-4 and 12-2.
Ryan Aper and Jake Lance collected four of the seven hits by the Loggers in game one of the double header. Aper was 2-for-2 with a homerun in the first inning. Lance was 2-for-3 with one RBI.
The Hawks scored nine runs in the 4
th inning and four more runs in the 5
th inning. Heartland was given 11 free passes and collected 10 hits to produce the 17 runs in the first game. Logger pitcher, Jordan Pesko received the loss (2-4 record).
Heartland scored 12 runs on 7 hits in the second game as walks continued to plague the Logger pitching staff. Ace pitcher for the Loggers, Ryan Aper allowed 8 runs on 8 hits and 8 walks. Aper is now 4-1 on the season.
Six hits by the Loggers in the second game proved to not be enough. The Loggers started out on a positive note in the first inning with back-to-back homeruns by Blake Gand and Ryan Aper. Gand was the only Logger hitter to have multiple hits in this game.
The scheduled game for Tuesday, May 1 with McKendree JV has been moved to Friday, May 4
th.
