East Peoria – Loggers Split in Non-conference Matchup at ICC. The softball team lost the first game to the Cougars, 6-3 and won the second game 6-5. Sara Rogers hit a two-run homer in the first inning for the Cougars. The Cougars scored 4 runs in the 4
th inning to take the lead 6-1. Brittney Reecer took the loss in her first outing since an elbow injury sidelined for two weeks. Sophomore back up pitcher for LLCC, Kaity Schultz threw four innings in relief. Katy Bettis and Makenzie Carter each had doubles with Carter’s coming in the 5
th inning to drive in two Logger runners. The Loggers left the bases loaded in the 7
th inning to lose 6-3.
Game two appeared to be the same results as game one…until a big four run 4
th inning allowing the Loggers to take a 6-5 lead. Kayti Lundin (13-5) got the win in relief of starting pitcher Payge Bowen. Lundin held the ICC Cougars scoreless for three innings.
Sami Estill, Marissa Jenkins, and Jori Gleich each had two hits in the second game. With two outs, Marissa Jenkins hit a three-run triple to tie the game at 5-5. Kaity Schultz singled to right to drive Jenkins in to take the lead 6-5.
The Lady Loggers are now 28-17 on the season and 32-19 in Region 24. LLCC will play double-headers with Lincoln College on Saturday, April 21 and then they will travel to play the conference leader, the Heartland Hawks.
