Kellee Phillips is from Coal City, IL and graduated from Coal City High School in 2010. Phillips set (and still holds) the record at Coal City HS for career kills. Phillips won the overall points award her junior and senior year. She began her club career with UNO VBC out of Joliet, IL. There she went on to play at the historic powerhouse Sports Performance VBC out of Aurora, IL for 3 years. Phillips played both outside and right-side hitter. Her 16’s club year (2008) placed 2nd in the club division at the AAU Junior National in Orlando. Her senior year she was named the Best Attacker at the National Junior Classic Tournament held at Great Lakes Center in Aurora, IL.
After graduating high school, Phillips (maiden name Mahaffay) went on to play at the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS). A pin hitter throughout college, mainly playing on the outside. She is 4th overall at UIS not only for kills with 906, but also for overall points with 1016.5. Graduated with a 3.49 GPA with a bachelor’s in social work.
She began her coaching career in 2011 at Christ the King Grade School. Coaching there for 3 years at each level (5th-8th). Phillips became a coach for Sacred Heart-Griffin freshman in 2014 and coached junior varsity level 2015-2016. In 2016, was co-director of Springfield Elite Volleyball Club in Springfield, IL for the high school portion until 2018. After taking some time off to focus on her family and raising her son who is now four years old, Phillips came back to coaching. After coming back into coaching she went to SHG JV in 2021, then took over the program for 2022-2023. Phillips has been coaching for 13 years and it is one of her passions.
