AJ graduated from Astoria High School where he then went on to attend UIS. There he found his love for volleyball through an Intramural program. AJ wanted to take it farther and founded the Men's and Women's Volleyball club in 2012. Played in the club for 2 years and then went on to coach the two clubs for 2 years. There he went on to coach for Springfield Elite Volleyball Club for 3 years. AJ was able to go on to become the assistant coach for Riverton High School from 2018-2019 and then Auburn High School from 2020 to 2021. He then got his certification to become a USAV official.Â
