The Lincoln Land men's basketball team for back to .500 on the season after an 84-63 victory over MWAC opponent Spoon River.
Neither team established much of an advantage in the first half. The entire half was played within 10 points of each other. The Snapper took a 4-point lead on a few occasions and the Loggers were able to get it as high as 6, but never anymore. At the break Lincoln Land held just a 38-34 lead. Early in the second half Spoon River got 7 straight point to take back the lead for the first time since nearly 8:00 to go in the first half. From there, the teams traded scores and the lead. Overall, the game saw 3 ties and 13 lead changes.
The game changed during a four-minute stretch from 9:30 to go until 4:20 to go in the game as the Loggers trailed 55-54. LLCC responded by rattling off a 14-0 run and ending with a 20-2 run to put the game away and outscoring the Snapper by 22 over that final 9:30 of play. Lincoln Land highest lead of the afternoon came on their last bucket as they got to the eventual lead of 21 at 84-63.
Lincoln Land held the advantage on nearly every statistical category, shooting a higher percentage from the floor, three, and free throws while also getting 24 more shot from the floor. The Loggers also held the rebounding and turnover advantage to help propel them to victory.
Jalen Ashely had his second straight double-double, ending with game highs of both 18 points and 10 rebounds. Three other Loggers broke the 10 point mark including Josh Banks with 13 and Nate Moore and Keshaun Harlan with 12 a piece.
Lincoln Land is now 6-6 on the season and back to a winning record of 3-2 in MWAC play, good enough to tie for third. On Wednesday the Loggers travel to Champaign to take on Parkland in a battle to remain near the top of the conference.
