Loggers win Round One of the Playoffs

Smith's Clutch Hitting Propels The Loggers To Victory Over Vincennes University Trailblazers

Braylan Smith drove in four runs on two hits to lead the Loggers past Vincennes University Trailblazers 9-2 on Thursday. In the seventh inning, Braylan Smith hit a grand slam to center field. The Loggers were the first to get on the board in the second when Kaeden Bowles hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.

Vincennes University Trailblazers jumped back into the lead in the top of the third inning after Bradyn Douglas hit a sacrifice fly, and Jevan Andrews singled to center field, each scoring one run. The Loggers captured the lead, 4-2, in the bottom of the sixth when Brooks Neuhoff tripled, scoring two runs, and Kaeden Bowles singled, scoring one run.

Trent Koehler earned the win for the Loggers. The righty allowed six hits and two runs over six and one-third innings, striking out two and walking two. Carson Allen took the loss for Vincennes University Trailblazers. The righty went five and one-third innings, surrendering four runs on eight hits, striking out two and walking one. Ryan Oswald collected the save.

The Loggers piled up 14 hits in the game. Payten Mugele led the Loggers with four hits in five at bats. Andrew Hendrickson and Ethan Hurst each collected multiple hits for the Loggers. The Loggers turned two double plays in the game.

Bradyn Douglas and Jevan Andrews were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in one run for Vincennes University Trailblazers. Jevan Andrews led Vincennes University Trailblazers with two hits in four at bats. Vincennes University Trailblazers were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Bryce Gross had the most chances in the field with six.

The Loggers play tomorrow at 11:00 pm against Parkland College.
