Loggers Come out Swinging in Both Wins Against Waubonsee

Game 1 - First-Inning Spurt Lead Loggers Past Waubonsee CC Chiefs

The Loggers scored six runs in the first inning, which helped them defeat Waubonsee CC Chiefs 8-1 on Friday.  An error scored one run, Payten Mugele homered to center field, scoring two runs, Seth Impson homered to center field, scoring two runs, and Brooks Neuhoff singled, scoring one run.

Trey Carter earned the win for the Loggers. The starter gave up one hit and zero runs over five innings, striking out nine and walking two. Taylor Siekierski stepped on the mound first for Waubonsee CC Chiefs. The starting pitcher gave up seven hits and eight runs (two earned) over four innings, striking out five and walking none. Max Powers threw one inning of no-run ball for the Loggers in relief. The right-handed pitcher gave up zero hits, striking out three and walking three.

Ethan Hurst and Colbie Glenn each collected two hits for the Loggers. Mugele and Impson each drove in two runs for the Loggers. The Loggers turned one double play in the game and were sure-handed while not commiting a single error. Mugele made the most plays with 13.

Chase Gabel went 2-for-3 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in.

Game 2 - Kaeden Bowles's Strong Eye Leads Loggers Past Waubonsee CC Chiefs

Kaeden Bowles showed a strong eye at the plate on Friday, as Bowles walked three times while leading the Loggers to a 14-2 victory over Waubonsee CC Chiefs. Waubonsee CC Chiefs were the first to get on the board in the second when Orlando Sharko hit a solo home run to right field.

The Loggers flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the second, scoring six runs on one hit to take the lead, 6-1. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Seth Winkler that drove in three. The Loggers scored five runs on one hit in the bottom of the fourth inning. An error scored one run, and Seth Impson hit a grand slam to right field. The Loggers scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth on a home run to right field by Bowles on the sixth pitch of the at-bat.

Andrew Hendrickson earned the win for the Loggers. The hurler allowed four hits and two runs over four innings, striking out six and walking one. Brady Nied took the loss for Waubonsee CC Chiefs. The starter went two and one-third innings, surrendering six runs on two hits, striking out three and walking two. Trent Koehler pitched two innings of shutout ball for the Loggers in relief. The righty surrendered zero hits, striking out three and walking one.

Impson led the Loggers with four runs batted in from the number seven spot in the lineup. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-4 on the day. Winkler went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Loggers in hits.

Cameron Hull and Sharko were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in one run for Waubonsee CC Chiefs. Sharko, Waubonsee CC Chiefs's number eight hitter, led the team with two hits in three at-bats.

The Loggers will travel to Millikin University for their next game on Wednesday at 4:00 pm.
