Loggers Win at Home on Food Drive Night

The Lincoln Land Logger men's basketball team got back in the win column with a 77-64 victory over Carl Sandburg College Chargers.

Lincoln Land got their hottest start of the early season charged by Gus McCrary. McCrary got a block, one of his game high 5, on the first possession to fire the Loggers up. McCrary then got a three-pointer and a lay-up on the next possession to get the first five points of the game. Lincoln Land raced to an 8-0 lead and raced out to a 22-10 lead, the highest of the game until the final seconds. The Chargers were able to stop the Loggers lead there and slowly chipped away, eventually taking a 29-28 lead with 4:45 to go in the first half. Carl Sandburg got to a 3-point advantage, the highest they would see, before the Loggers were able to get the last points of the half to break a tie and go into break up 35-33.

The start of the second half saw the teams continue to play close until the score was 51-47 with the Loggers in front. The Loggers got 7 straight points and now saw themselves up double digits again and for the first time since 6:00 in to the game. Carl Sandburg was able to get as close as 6, but never closer. Carl Sandburg made one last push getting to 68-61 with under 3:00 to play, but the Loggers made enough stops and play to keep the Charger run at bay. Lincoln Land ended the game on that point on a 9-3 run to eventually find themselves victorious at 77-64.

For the first time this season, the Loggers outrebounded their opponent, 41-29. Lincoln Land also outshot Carl Sandburg from the field and from three and although they shot worse from the line, the Loggers got 10 more attempts to make up for the deficit. The Loggers also dished out a season high 18 assists on 24 field goals. Three Loggers got to double digit scoring led by freshman Jalen Ashley with a game high 21, more than he had scored in the first two games of the season combined, while also securing 8 rebounds. Nate Moore ended with 17 points and Jean-Peire Villegas just missed a double-double finishing with 13 points and 9 rebounds. Freshman Keshaun Harlan dished out a season team high 7 assists.

Lincoln Land has a small break in play leading in to the Thanksgiving week. On Saturday the 29th, the Loggers travel to Hillsboro, Missouri for their first trip of the year away from Cass Gymnasium to take on Jefferson College at 3 PM.
