Loggers Lose to Start the New Year

Spoon River - 81
Lincoln Land - 62

The Lincoln Land men's basketball team traveled to Canton on Saturday to start both the second semester and Mid-West Athletic Conference play. The Loggers unfortunately came up short 81-62 to the Snappers of Spoon River College.

Early in the contest each team had a turn of runs that kept the game flowing back and forth. The Loggers started getting the first 5 points of the afternoon. The Snappers returned with a 12-2 run to take a 5 point lead of their own. Lincoln Land again turned up their scoring and took a brief 17-16 lead. Although they'd be able to tie it and be within a score or two, that would be the last lead the Loggers would have. Things began to go wrong for LLCC when after the under 4:00 media timeout they trailed by a single point. However, the Snappers were able to get 10 points over the last minutes while the Loggers only mustered up 2. Spoon River knocked in a three as the first half expired and went in to the break leading 38-29.

In the second half Lincoln Land quickly got down double digits but were able to get back within 8. However, the decisive Snapper run came at this point as they scored 14, including 10 in a row, while Lincoln Land only managed 2. After falling behind double digits, LLCC never got closer than 12 and were trailing by as many as 22. After getting within 12, Spoon River closed the game making free throws and getting us to the final score of 81-62.

Josh Banks became the 9th different Logger to lead the team in scoring in a game this season giving the Loggers a career high 13 points. Nate Moore and Stephan Braun also got to double digits with 12 and 10 respectively. The bench for LLCC ended the game with 48 of the Logger 62 points.

Lincoln Land fell to 2-12 on the season, 0-1 in conference play, and 0-2 in Region 24 games. After the snow clears, the Loggers will take on Lewis and Clark at home Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm.
