John Wood - 81
LLCC - 55
The Lincoln Land men's basketball team traveled to Quincy to continue Mid-West Athletic Conference play but could not keep pace late and fell 81-55 to the Trailblazers of John Wood.Â
The Loggers have struggled to remain in contests by allowing large runs for their opponents in the first half, tonight broke that mold. AJ Tillman came out hot getting the first two buckets of the game and putting in 10 of the first 15 points for LLCC. Lincoln Land was able to hold the lead for a majority of the first half and the possession before the break got a bucket to go up 5 points, the high mark in the game for them, going in to half leading 32-27.Â
The Loggers lead quickly was taken away, but neither team lead by more than 5 in the first 10:00 of the second half. With right at 10:00 to go the Loggers trailed by just a single bucket at 51-49, but that is when things went south. John Wood put slight distance between the two teams going on a small run and getting up by 9 before a Logger three cut it to just 5, 58-53. From there on the Loggers went ice cold. Over the final 8:00 of play, Lincoln Land scored only one more bucket which John Wood got scorching hot and five threes and outscore LLCC 23-2 in the final stretch. Eventually John Wood ran away with the contest, 81-55.Â
Tillman stayed the scoring threat through out the game, putting in a game high 23. Tillman also ended with 6 assists and 5 rebounds. Mick Downs had his second best scoring output of the year getting to 8 points and he was joined there by Nate Moore off the bench with 8 as well. Gus McCrary ended with a team high 9 rebounds.Â
Lincoln Land falls to 3-17 and 1-5 in conference. Their next chance is when they return home Saturday to take on Spoon River in Cass Gymnasium.
