The Loggers volleyball team swept their last 2 opponents in three straight sets each to close out the Opening Weekend Tourney.
The Loggers pulled through a close first match against Carl Sandburg winning 25-23, 25-20 & 25-22. Establishing a balanced attack from Sophomore setter Emily Veach (34 Assists). Isabel Hudspeth led the team in kills (15). Freshman libero Hannah Clayton led the Logger defense with 13 digs while Sophomore outside hitter Bella Powell tallied 12 digs. After the loggers were down in the second set 14-5, the team rallied back to keep Carl Sandburg to 20 points on their 20 to 6 point run.
Blackhawk College fell to the loggers in threes sets. The Land's sophomore middle attackers, Josie Walter & Carly Michels blazed the Logger offense with a combined 23 kills. Wolter's hitting percentage was .625 while Michels hit .455. After being down 22-24 in the second set, the Loggers made an impressive comeback to win 29-27. The Loggers finished their premier performance with 5 match wins, only dropping a single match.
The loggers play next week in Kansas City at KCKCC for a 2 day tourney on Thursday and Friday.
