Saturday sweep to end the regular season for Loggers Volleyball

Logs cut down Carl Sandburg 3-0 and Moraine Valley 3-1

The Loggers started day two of the North vs. South Tournament in Champaign playing Carl Sandburg College. The Loggers won in 3 straight sets. Scores include: 25-21, 25-23, 25-16.

The Loggers started the first set down 3-7. Josie Wolter recorded two aces to bring Carl Sandburg's lead to 2. A five point service run, including an ace from Bella Powell and two kills from Isabel Hudspeth gave the Loggers a 15-12 lead. After a timeout from Carl Sandburg, Isabel Hudspeth added two more kills. Kenna Bixby added a kill for the Loggers, leading 20-18. Bella Powell and Josie Wolter forced Carl Sandburg to take their second timeout of the set with a big block at 22-19. The Loggers won the first set 25-21.

An overpass from Carl Sandburg gave the Loggers their first point of the set, 1-3. Bella Powell recorded an ace to bring the score to 6-5. Bella Pasquino added a solo block to tie the set after being down 1. Carly Michels added a block and kill. Hannah Clayton tallied multiple digs and Pasquino added a big solo block to give the Loggers the lead, 18-17. Clayton served an ace, forcing a Carl Sandburg timeout at 21-19. Bella Powell finished the second set with a kill, final score 25-23.

The Loggers took their first timeout early, being down 1-6 in the third set. Bella Pasquino added a kill right out of the timeout. Two kills from Hudspeth and one from Pasquino brought the Loggers within one point. Kenna Bixby served two aces and Pasquino added a kill, giving the Loggers a four point lead, 15-11. Carl Sandburg was forced into a timeout by the Loggers at 17-12. Hudspeth added a kill and two aces, pushing the Loggers lead to 22-15. The Loggers final point of the set came from a Bella Powell kill. Final score of the third set was 25-16.

Isabel Hudspeth led the Loggers with 12 kills and Bella Powell added 11. Hannah Clayton led with 9 digs and Kenna Bixby totaled 34 assists.

The Loggers continued play at 3:00pm vs. Moraine Valley Community College, winning in 4 sets. Scores include: 25-19, 26-24, 23-25, 27-25.

The Loggers started the first set strong up 8-6. The Loggers continued to push points and double the lead 14-7. Bella Powell and Isabel Hudspeth tallied big time kills throughout the entire set. At 17-9, the Loggers forced Moraine Valley to a timeout. The team chemistry pushed the Loggers to take the first set 25-19.

The second set went point for point, tied at 5. Hannah Clayton entered the set at 6-10, adding a kill for the Loggers and an ace later at 10-16. Carly Michels gave the Loggers two straight points, one being a kill and the other an ace. The Loggers forced Moraine Valley to call a timeout with the score being 16-19. Bella Powell and Josie Wolter added a kill each. Two aces by Clayton brought the Loggers with one, forcing Moraine Valley to take their second timeout. Michels added a huge block to tie the game before Clayton finished the second set with an ace, 26-24.

The Loggers started the third set with a 4-0 run. Bella Pasquino had a solo block and a kill from an over passed ball, giving the Loggers some momentum. Josie Wolter went on a six point service run, 11-6. Isabel Hudspeth added two kills and Carly Michels added one for the Loggers, leading 15-11. Moraine Valley came back into the set, pushing ahead 2 points. The Loggers took a timeout to reset. Out of the timeout, Michels and Pasquino put up a block and Hudspeth added a kill. The Loggers dropped the third set 23-25.

The fourth set went point for point before Kenna Bixby served four straight aces to push the Loggers ahead 10-7. Isabel Hudspeth added a kill and Wolter added two aces giving the Loggers a five point lead, 15-10. Moraine Valley took their timeout of the set as the Loggers were leading 17-11. Wolter fired up the Loggers with a huge kill but Moraine Valley rallied back to tie the set at 20. A block from Michels and Pasquino brought the Loggers to tie the game at 24. Hudspeth added a big kill to give the Loggers a one point lead, 26-25. The Loggers won the fourth set 27-25.

Bella Powell and Carly Michels led the Loggers with a double double each. Powell had 17 kills and 15 digs. Michels had 11 kills and 17 digs. Hudspeth added 12 kills, and Michels had 11 kills. Kenna Bixby had 42 assists in the 4 set match.
