Logs fight hard - drop two in Johnson County Tri

The Loggers Traveled to Overland Park, Kansas today to take on Johnson County Community College and Iowa Western Community College.
Despite the Loggers losses to #1 ranked Johnson County (Division 2 NJCAA) and Iowa Western (Division 1 NJCAA), the Logger battled hard.
The Loggers fell to Johnson County, respectively, in 4 sets: 26-24, 18-25, 18-25 & 18-25. Then turned around and played Iowa western; 14-25, 23-25, 25-21 & 23-25.
The Loggers were led offensively against Johnson county by Bella Powell with 14 kills and 5 aces, while Carly Michels added 13 kills, assisted by sophomore setter Emily Veach with 37 assists. The team tallied an impressive 9 aces. Bella Pasquino added 6 kills on an impressive .385 hitting percentage.
Against Iowa Western the Loggers started off slow, losing the first set 14-25 on unforced errors. The Loggers bounced back in the second set, with an impressive fight from the service line, by Sophomore Middle Blocker Josie Wolter.
Wolter came up big with 3 aces on 5 points earned, despite the set loss, 23-25. Substitutions made in set 2 included Kierstyn Harmon in the setter position and Olivia Torricelli in the libero position, both played the remainder of the match.
The Loggers didn't give up and fought hard to take set 3, 25-21. The Loggers started strong and ended the set even stronger, with a huge kill from Isabel Hudspeth assisted by Harmon.
Even though the Loggers fell in set 4, they played with tremendous heart. Sophomore Captain Isabel Hudspeth stepped up in a huge way during the final points of the fourth set.
Hudspeth delivered a monster kill, a monster block, and you guessed it...a monster ace to get her team with in 1 point of Iowa Western, 23-24, before Iowa Central took the final set 23-25 and ultimately the match 3-1.
Hudspeth finished the match with a double double (11 kills and 16 digs), while Kierstyn Harmon dished an impressive 33 assists and 10 digs, notching a double double, after not playing in set one. Olivia Torricelli led her team in digs with 15, notching a season best for the freshman defensive specialist, after also not playing in the first set.
The Loggers continue match play next week, traveling to Harrisburg, Illinois to face Southeastern Illinois College on Tuesday October 25 @ 6:00 pm.
