Cougars over Loggers 3-1

The Loggers hosted Illinois Central College at home, losing in 4 sets. Scores include: 25-20, 19-25, 24-26, 20-25. The Loggers started the first set strong forcing ICC to a timeout at 5-0. Ray Foutch entered the game for Bella Pasquino in the back row, 10-5. Isabel Hudspeth recorded two aces to push the lead to 12-5. The Loggers continued to push ahead with kills by Josie Wolter and Isabel Hudspeth before calling a timeout at 17-12. Carly Michels had a big swing out of the timeout, firing the Loggers up. A kill by Wolter and service point by Bella Powell forced ICC to use their second timeout of the set as the Loggers led 23-18. Josie Wolter finished the set with 6 kills on 6 swings. The Loggers ended the first set with a kill by Michels, score included 25-20.

The second set started with a missed serve by ICC. The Loggers fell behind by 2 points but a kill and ace from Hudspeth brought the score to 6-5. Josie Wolter had a three point serving run, one being an ace, to force ICC into a timeout at 14-11. The Loggers took their second timeout of the set at 16-21. The Loggers lost the second set 19-25.

The Loggers started the third set with a 3-2 lead but ICC responded with a 6-0 run before the Loggers took a timeout. Bella Pasquino brought the Loggers out of the hole with a kill. Kierstyn Harmon subbed in for Pasquino and had 5 service points to tie up the set, 10-10. The set continued to go point for point with lead changes by both teams. The Loggers tied up the set again at 21 as Michels went back to the service line. A kill by Powell and block by Wolter and Pasquino brought the energy back for the Loggers, forcing ICC to a timeout at 23-23. A nail biting third set ended with a set loss by the Loggers, score included 24-26.

Continuing into the fourth set, the Loggers and ICC were fighting for points. The Loggers shortly fell behind at 4-8 but Michels had a huge kill to switch the momentum. ICC took a 6 point lead before the Loggers took a timeout at 8-14. The Loggers struggled to turn things but ended up coming back late in the set after being down 8 points, 19-23. The Loggers lost the fourth set with a score of 20-25. Bella Powell recorded a double-double with 14 kills and 22 digs. Kiley Schanuel had 17 digs and Isabel Hudspeth added 12 digs. Josie Wolter had 11 kills and Carly Michels added 10.

The Loggers will continue to play this Friday in Overland Park, Kansas. They will take on Johnson County CC at 1:00pm and Iowa Western CC at 3:00pm.
