Men's Basketball

Men's basketball stopped by John Wood

The Lincoln Land Logger men's basketball team travelled to Quincy and fell to host John Wood, 88-62.

LLCC was able to race out to a 7-2 lead and found themselves tied at 15 about 8:00 into the half. However, long runs have doomed the Loggers and on Thursday night, that run came in the first half. From that 15-15 tie, the Blazers rattled off a 12-0 run to force two Loggers timeouts. JWCC closed the half on a 35-9 run over the last 12:00 of the first half to take a 50-26 advantage into the halftime break.

Lincoln Land played second half with a similar deficit. With about 8:00 to go in the game the Loggers got the deficit below 20 for the first time since the first half when they got to 19. That was as close as they would get as a quick 11-0 Blazer run put the game out of reach. John Wood outscored the Loggers by 7 in that last 8:00 to close the game with the 88-62 victory. Despite shooting nearly 40% on the game, the Loggers were outrebounded by 28 and allowed 20 offensive rebounds on the night, which allowed John Wood to put up 16 more field goal attempts.

Freshmen Garik Hill controlled the offensive paint in the game as he was able to put in a team high 17 points on 7/10 shooting from the field. Three other Loggers got in double digits: freshmen Keon Jones and sophomore Jordan Brooks each had 11 and freshmen Darius Brewington also got to double digits with 10.

Lincoln Land is now 4-21 on the season and 0-4 in MWAC Conference play. They have a short weekend break and then will play Monday evening at home against Illinois Wesleyan's JV team.
