Lincoln Land – 53
ICC – 82
The Logger men's basketball team played their first MWAC conference road game of the season and fell 83-52 to the Cougars of Illinois Central College.
The first half was a slugfest for both teams. LLCC rattled off 9 straight points after giving up the first bucket of the game and held their highest lead of the game at 9-2. Neither team was able to get in any rhythm offensively going 33% (ICC) and 31% (LLCC) from the field. Lincoln Land went a stretch of nearly 7:00 minutes with only 3 points, all coming from the line during that first half. A tip in bucket at the buzzer gave ICC a 25-21 lead at the break.
The first 5:00 of the second half doomed the Loggers on Wednesday and it did so again tonight. ICC went on a 9-0 run, and a 19-2 run to start the half. Lincoln Land struggled to ever get very close. The Loggers worked their way back within striking distance with 8:00 to go as they went to the line trailing by 16, but after splitting the pair 15 was as close as they would be. Lincoln Land turned the ball over 18 times on the day and shot even worse in the second half, going 9/36 for 25%. ICC turned the Loggers over, got rebounds and got out quickly and got easy buckets to build a lead as high as 32 on their way to the victory.
Lincoln Land's loss pushes them to 3-19 on the season. They will continue conference play Wednesday in Quincy against John Wood Community College.
