Despite a strong first half, the Loggers eventually fell to Danville Area Community College 84-75.
Freshmen Keon Jones was a dominant force for LLCC in the first half as he was able to pour in 24 of the Loggers 44 in the half. THe Logger defense in the half also held DACC to 35% shooting, including on 3/18 from behind the arc. The Loggers were controlling the tempo and flow on the game on both ends of the court. The Loggers knocked in 54% of their shots and only committed 4 turnovers in the half. All of that allowed the Loggers to enter the halftime break with confidence as they led 44-33.Â
The second half proved an entirely different story. The Jaguars were able to speed up the Loggers and force 9 turnovers from LLCC in the second half. Most of those turnovers immediately became fast break points for DACC. Shooting percentages nearly flipped as LLCC struggled and converted only 35% from the floor in the half. Danville also out-rebounded the Loggers by 11 in the second half. The Jaguars also got 36 of their second half 51 from the lane, most of which came off fast break layups and dunks. LLCC struggled mightily in the half and got outscored 51-31. Despite on the game having nearly identical field goal percentages, Danville was able to get 16 more field goal attempts on the day thanks to committing less turnovers and pulling in offensive rebounds.Â
Jones ended the day with 30, a game high and ended with a double-double having gathered in 11 boards, also a game high. Jones also handed out 4 assists. Freshmen ruled the day for LLCC as Darius Brewington added in 17 and Garik Hill pitched in 16 to round out the Logger double digits scoring.Â
Lincoln Land falls to 3-18 and 0-1 in the Mid-West Athletic Conference. They will travel Saturday to East Peoria to take on Illinois Central College at 3 pm.Â
