LLCC - 72
Millikin - 69
The Logger men's basketball team was able to break a losing streak and come away with a 72-69 victory over Millikin JV.Â
All evening the Loggers would start to pull away, but could never put the Big Blue away. LLCC led by 10 on three separate occasions, once in the first half, once halfway through the second half, and even as late as 70-60 with under 4:00 to play in the contest. Early in the contest LLCC was unable to pull away because they found themselves trading two point buckets for Millikin threes. Millikin knocked in 6 threes of their 9 in the game in the first 13:00 of the game. The only four Logger threes came in that same time span. The Loggers struggled from behind the arc going 4/18from three and 0/5 in the second half. However, paint scoring propelled the Loggers to victory as they out scored the taller Millikin squad 48-22 paced by freshmen Garik Hill who converted 6 of his 7 field goals in the lane. Hill had his second solid game in a row and ended with 17. Although LLCC took a one point advantage into the half and led by 10 with under 4:00 to go, Millikin went on a 9-2 run and had the ball with :11 left in the contest trailing only by 3. Although Millikin got a shot up, Hill was able to contest and the shot went wide giving the Loggers the victory.
Freshmen powered the Loggers as Hill was joined by freshmen Keon Jones at 17. Brewington led LLCC with 19 in the game. Brewington barely missed a double-double with a team high 9 boards.Â
The Loggers move to 3-17 and hope to build on the momentum as they head into Mid-West Athletic Conference play Wednesday as they face the Jaguars of Danville Area in Cass Gymnasium.Â
