#12 LLCC defeats East Central 25-19, 25-19, 20-25, 25-23
LLCC defeats Kankakee 26-24, 25-20, 25-21
GAME ONE:
LLCC played back-to-back for the last two matches of its own Invitational, defeating Missouri's East Central in the first match and Region IV's Kankakee in the second.
In the first, LLCC built leads in all four sets, but the Cougars stayed close due to unforced errors, including four consecutive that helped East Central close a 16-11 deficit to 16-15 in the deciding set. For the match, LLCC's offense dominated with outsides putting down 28 kills while middles contributed 23 while hitting .400.
GAME ONE STATS:
Digs: Bauer 19, Bates 18
Aces: Hill 3, 4 tied w/1
Blocks: 5 tied w/1
Assists: Pealer 28, Volk 21
Kills: Bauer 16, Eaker 14
GAME TWO:
Against Kankakee, the Loggers looked tired having played hard immediately before against East Central, so that the Cavaliers stayed close throughout the match. LLCC couldn't build more than a four point lead, save for set-point in the second set in the 25-20 victory. Aggressive serving from Mary Hill, Sami Eaker, and Taylor Thomas kept Kankakee from getting any rhythm and permitted the Loggers to win through a balanced attack for the second consecutive match.
"I worry about the runs of errors. We have to avoid those—and there's one in every set. It could drive me bald," Coach Dietz said as the tourney concluded. "The bright side is that we played hard start to finish. That's a big thing to fight to the end—you want your opponent to have to beat you."
GAME TWO STATS:
Digs: Bates 13, Pealer 10
Aces: Thomas 3, Eaker 3
Blocks: Plush 3, Bauer 2
Assists: Pealer 21, Volk 14
Kills: Eaker 10, Hill 10
Record: 7-2
