Men's basketball drops home opener, fall to 0-3

The Lincoln Land Loggers came into their home opener against Kaskaskia at 0-2 and hoped to revenge a loss earlier in the year when the Loggers fell 77-57 in the first game of the season.

For the first time this year LLCC had a strong enough first half effort to go into half with a lead. 23 combined points from freshmen Keon Jones and Darius Brewington helped propel the Loggers to a 41-34 lead. The game was a 33-32 game with just over 3:00 to go until half when the Loggers forced some turnovers and turned those turnovers into points to finish on an 8-2. The Logger coaching staff emphasized the importance of rebounding this week in practice following Kaskaskia outrebounding Lincoln Land 49-25 in the teams first meeting of the year. The Loggers held a 21-16 rebounding advantage going into that halftime break.

The second half saw Kaskaskia make two large runs to put the game out of reach for LLCC. The Blue Devils rattled off a 18-1 run to start the second half and force a pair of Logger timeouts. Lincoln Land did stabilize and get within 56-50 with just under 10:00 to go in the game. Kaskaskia then responded with another run, this time 13-0, to get the score to 69-50. That proved enough points for Kaskaskia to win the game as LLCC ended with their final of 68 points. Lincoln Land was able to cut the lead to 10, but were never able to get any closer on the way to the loss.

The second half was a statistical change as Kaskaskia out-rebounded the Loggers 26-12. LLCC struggled shooting the ball as they went 5/19 from the three point line and 9/18 (6/14 in the second half) from the free throw line. Jones led all scorers with 20, Brewington added 15, and sophomore Keon Day ended in double digits with 10. Jones ended with a double-double as he pulled in 10 rebounds.

The Loggers fell to 0-3 with the loss and travel to Vincennes, Indiana this weekend to take on Vincennes University on Saturday evening.
