LLCC defeats Waubonsee 21-25, 25-15, 27-25, 25-11
Northeast Nebraska defeats LLCC 25-20, 25-17, 25-9
Â
GAME ONE:
LLCC started its final regular season home tournament of the year against Waubonsee Community College. The first set proved a doozy as the two teams traded points through 21-21 with neither team gaining more than a one point advantage until three Waubonsee kills and an LLCC hitting error gave WCC a 25-21 victory.  Â
In the second set, LLCC started quick behind kills from Kennedy Bauer to lead 5-2, but WCC caught up with 3 consecutive LLCC miscues. Sami Eaker broke an 8-8 tie with an ace and after two aces by freshman Molly Ashbaugh and two kills from Bauer, the margin opened to 17-9 for the Loggers who coasted from there, winning the set on a second-contact kill by Annika Black, 25-15.
Â
The third set saw the Loggers in an early hole, 4-9 and they were not able to catch WaubonseeÂ
until 23-23. Lincoln Land traded points until Ashley Melton returned to the front row where her kill put the set away in overtime, 27-25.
Â
The deciding set saw Lincoln Land come out hard and take an early lead 6-2 that quickly expanded behind a myriad of kills by Mary Hill, Annika Black, and an Ashley Melton block to 16-7. LLCC kept the pressure up, winning with a Sami Eaker kill followed by a Hill blast to win 25-11.
Â
"That was a good match. Other than some service errors by both teams in the first two sets, I thought both squads played good, aggressive volleyball. We were fortunate that one of our better rotations matched up with one where WCC struggled today in the second and fourth sets and that accounts for the lopsided scores. It could easily have happened in reverse to us," Coach Dietz said afterwards.

Â
GAME TWO:
The Hawks of Northeast Nebraska swept LLCC in the final match of the night, winning 25-20, 25-17, 25-9. The Hawks dominated from start to finish with a balanced hitting attack. "We just got beat," Coach Dietz said afterwards. Northeast made us look bad and forced us into errors. You just tip your hat to them and move on and that's what we have to do."
