#17 LLCC defeats John Wood 25-13, 25-18, 25-13
Â
#17 LLCC played the John Wood Blazers toÂ
finish Tuesday night, dispatching them in a three-set win. The Loggers started fast behind the blocks and swings of sophomore Erika Miller and three aces by Jakya Pealer, building a quick 10-3 lead. The lead widened to 22-11 on a Bobana Marusic ace and a kill by Kiley Brunstein before the set ended on a Blazer serving error.
Â
The second set bounced back and forth to 5-5 before a Marusic serving run opened a seven point gap which was widened by solid Logger blocking. LLCC had a run of unforced errors that allowed the Blazers to close to sixÂ
at 22-16, but the Loggers held on with a Brunstein kill to win 25-18.
Â
The final set started with a streak of tough serves by freshman Ashley Melton followed quickly by Lainey Jackson's serves, building a 14-4 lead for LLCC. Brunstein kept the gap at 10 with a series of kills before John Wood served in the net to end the match.
Â
"We had some errors of hesitation," Coach Dietz said. "We can't have that against ranked teams, not if we want to beat the guys up in the top ten."
