The Loggers dropped game one and won game two in the opening day of their series with Illinois Central College. Devin Smith (2-3) was dominant in the game, but suffered the loss for the Loggers in game one. The Kentucky Wesleyan commit went 7 innings, giving up one unearned run on 6 hits. Smith fanned 7 in his outing. The offense came up short again for the Loggers, as the only run of the game came in the bottom of the 9th. John Plattner went 2-3 with a 2B and the only RBI for the Loggers. After the brief excitement of Plattner's RBI in the 9th, the Loggers were retired and left with a 3-1 loss.
Austin Chapman (2-2) was the winning pitcher in game two for Lincoln Land. The freshman went 5 innings and surrendered just 3 runs. He allowed 5 hits and set down 4 batters on strikes. Jay Burton came in relief for Chapman in the 6th. In just 19 pitches, Burton retired the Cougars in the 6th and 7th to earn a rare 6 out save and give the Loggers a win, 5-3. The 5 runs were produced by 4 different Loggers chipping in RBI's, and also a wild pitch by ICC. Chase Kuntzman, Brendan Hostettler, John Plattner, and Bryar Jansen all knocked in a run. Plattner contributed another 2 hit performance in game two, with another 2B.
Another split conference day leaves the Loggers at 11-18 (4-10 MWAC) on the year. They finish up their series with ICC on Saturday with two must win 7 inning games in Peoria, starting at 1 p.m.
