Smith Dominates Blazers, Loggers Win Again
Devin Smith (4-3) pitched 8 strong innings, dicing the Trailblazers of Vincennes College for a 3-1 Logger win. Smith gave up just 4 hits in the win, surrendering 1 earned run and striking out 9. Smith was able to use his defense and get several big outs in big situations. Freshman righty Cade Sestak came in for the 9th inning and sat down the Blazers in order, including 2 strikeouts, for his 5th save of the season. To aid Smith and Sestak with the run support, Noah Powless, John Plattner, and Andy Lopez all chipped in multiple hits. Lopez pushed across the lone RBI for the Loggers. The other runs were products of defensive mistakes made by the Blazers that the Loggers were able to take advantage of.
The win brings the Loggers back to .500 with a record of 19-19 (9-11 MWAC) this season. They continue their weekend set with Vincennes Saturday with a doubleheader. The first pitch of game one will beÂ
at 1:00 p.m. at Claude Kracik Field in Springfield.
