LLCC trailed 2-1 going into the bottom of the 6
th inning when the wheels came and the wagon crashed. The Hawks scored 7 runs in their half of the inning on 6 hits and 2 costly errors. Brittany Roady picked up the loss as she went 5 innings, walking 1 batter and striking out five. Addison Bryant relieved Roady, allowed 3 runs and only 1 was earned.
Offensively the Loggers struggled at the plate as they only produced 5 hits. Katie McLean was the only Logger with multiple hits as she went 2-for-3, with a double.
LLCC scored 3 runs in the top of the first inning of game two on a three run homer by Madie Sims. Katie McLean led off with a double, Katelyn Presley reached on an error to give Sims the opportunity for the Loggers to score first.
Heartland came back and scored 1 run in the 2
nd inning. The Loggers answered in the 3
rd inning with 1 run to make the score 4-1. The Hawks then put together 5 run bottom half charge. Maddie Routh relieved starter Tess Beckham in the 3
rd inning and retired the Hawks in order in the 4
th inning with the score 6-5 for the Hawks. The Loggers scored 3 runs in the 5
th inning on a 3 run homer for Whitney David. Heartland answered with 3 runs in the 6
th and each team scored 1 run each in the 7
th as the Loggers came up short in the 10-9 loss. Tess Beckham was the losing pitcher for the Loggers. Maddie Mackey was the winning pitcher for the Hawks.
Katie McLean went 3-for-5, with a double and 2 RBIs. "We hit the ball better in game two, but everything was right to their defense," said Coach John Marsaglia. "We need to execute on defense and be more consistent offensively."
LLCC is now 10-12 overall 6-2 in the MWAC.
