Men's basketball drops Region game to Rend Lake, 85-61

Rend Lake - 85
Lincoln Land - 61

The Lincoln Land Loggers men's basketball team played their first Region 24 game of the year on the road against Rend Lake. Although the Loggers have made steps of improvement, they have not been able to get over the hump and get their first victory of the year. Saturday afternoon LLCC came out playing with some of their best effort of the year. The entire first half was full of back and forth runs from both teams. Rend Lake raced out to an 9 point lead fairly early, but then the Loggers fought back to within a few points. Rend Lake would respond and push it back out to 6-10 points until Lincoln Land would fight back to a one or two possession game. Lincoln Land got a three pointer late in the half from freshman Mitch Hardiek and found themselves trailing 35-32 right before half. Rend Lake got a half-court buzzer beater at the halftime horn and went into the half up 38-32.

About 5:00 into the second half Lincoln Land only trailed by 2 at 42-40, their closest deficit since early in the contest. Unfortunately, the Loggers started to struggle with foul trouble and tired legs and Rend Lake rattled off a 34-9 run to put the game out of reach for Lincoln Land, who never got closer than 24 from that point on.

Rebounding again was an issue for the Loggers who were out-rebounded, 43-28. Rend Lake was able to get 18 offensive rebounds, most of which resulted in second chance points. The rebounding edge allowed Rend Lake to get 24 more field goal attempts than LLCC. A bright spot for LLCC was that they forced 21 turnovers, unfortunately they were unable to take advantage of this as they committed 23 turnovers of their own.

Hardiek led all scorers with 17, a high for his young career and his fourth double digit game in a row. Sophomore Jake Pennell (12) and freshman Tyler Sales (10) were the other Loggers in double digits. Freshman Benji Eaker pulled down a game high 9 rebounds.

Lincoln Land falls to 0-6 on the year. They will be off next week and will take the floor again on November 26th against Illinois Wesleyan's JV.
