Volleyball ends tournament second in MWAC

#15 LLCC loses to #2 Parkland  20-25, 16-25, 21-25
LLCC defeats John Wood 25-12, 25-12, 25-13
LLCC defeats Lewis+Clark 25-22, 25-7, 25-17

LLCC finished the MWAC Tournament with two wins and a loss, defeating John Wood and Lewis & Clark in straight sets, but likewise being defeated by Parkland College.

The Loggers started the day against Parkland and an immediate run of unforced errors provided Parkland with a four-point margin that stayed between four and seven most of the way, the Loggers closing the gap to two once.  The second set was all Parkland while the third set saw the Loggers hold the lead for most of the first half, but Parkland's in-system attack proved too much for the Loggers.  LLCC was led  by Molly Tauke's 15 kill while Jackson distributed the offense with her 33 assists (putting her 7th all-time at LLCC for career assists).  "I wish we wouldn't have the runs of unforced errors," Coach Dietz said.  "Parkland forces enough errors, so they don't need the bonus points handed to them.  I think that mattered in the first set right out of the gate.  It's tough to play catch-up against a top 10 team."

In the second match, LLCC was in control the entire way against John Wood, opening quick leads and winning all three sets by a 12+ margin.  The Loggers were led by aggressive serves from Bobana Marusic (4 aces) and Taylor Thomas (3aces) while Jakya Pealer tallied 19 assists and 7 digs.  "I was happy we came out and played hard, since we'd just lost to Parkland.  We didn't let up or have runs of mental errors," Coach Dietz said afterwards.  "Then again, they may have just been hungry and ready to head to lunch."

In the final match, Lincoln Land faced Lewis & Clark for the third time this season, and after a tough 3-1 rroad win in Region 24 action, the Loggers swept L+C today.  The first set was close, tied still at 20-20 before LLCC won 25-22, but then the Loggers broke it open with a 25-7 second set victory and didn't look back.  LLCC was led by Lainey Jackson with 11 digs, 1 ace, and 25 assists, and a distributed offense—six Loggers had more than three kills and the team hit .333.  Coach Dietz said afterwards, "We started sluggish with some miscommunication and lack of movement to start the first set and put ourselves in a hole, but we dug out—that's the first key..if you are in a hole, the first step to get out is stop digging.  Once we did that, we were good the rest of the way."
