Loggers Sweep Trailblazers

Lincoln Land finished off a four game sweep on Sunday defeating the Lewis & Clark Community College Trailblazers 9-1 and 4-3.  The Loggers end the weekend with an overall record of 34-8 and are now in second place in the MWAC conference with a 21-7 mark.

Freshman starter Matt Steinhoff toed the rubber for the Loggers in game one and had his best performance of the season.  Steinhoff (3-3) threw a complete game, allowing only one run on five hits and he punched out six.  Lincoln Land hitters supported the outing with eleven hits, including two apiece from Michael Ryan, Aaron Steinhoff, and Johnny Steinwart.  Jonathan Walder added an RBI double and Noah Powless drove in two runs.

LLCC trailed 3-0 in game two but plated three runs in the top of the fifth inning to knot the score and scored the go ahead run in the top of the seventh to go up 4-3.  Lead off man Nick Maton hit an infield single with two outs and the bass empty.  He then stole second and advanced to third in a wild pitch.  Xavier Collier then legged out a bang bang infield single to score Maton for the lead. Maton then came on in relief of starter Rick Dour  to close the game out in the bottom half of the inning for his sixth save of the year.  Dour pitched 6.33 for the win, allowing three runs on seven hits, and is now 6-1 on the season.

"Two great wins today," coach Riggle said after the games Sunday.  " We have now put ourselves in a great position heading into our last conference weekend to earn the regional seed we want."

Lincoln Land will close out their regular season next Friday and Saturday with a four game set against John Wood Community College.
