Logger Win Wild One at Vincennes

Xavier Collier
Sunday turned out to be a long and wild day for the Loggers, who will head home from Indiana after beating the Vincennes Trailblazers 22-16 and finishing the three game weekend sweep.  "I'm not sure how I'd describe that one," coach Riggle said  when asked what he thought about the game Sunday.  "We won, so that is all that really matters.  We swung that bats well and capitalized on their mistakes. Certainly made a few mistakes of our own that costs us a lot of runs early."

After three innings of play, Lincoln Land trailed 10-2, two runs and two innings away from the ten run, five inning slaughter rule.  The Loggers scored eighteen unanswered runs over the next four innings, giving them a 20-10 lead after their half of the eighth inning.  With LLCC now needing only three outs to end the game an inning short, the Trailblazers rallied for two runs to extend the game into the ninth.  Lincoln Land erased the scoring threat by plating two runs of their own in the ninth for a 22-12 lead.  But Vincennes would not go quietly, scoring four runs off Logger closer Nick Maton before the game finally ended.

Vincennes outhit the Loggers 19-15, but it was the six Trailblazer errors and eight Logger hits for extra bases that won it for Lincoln Land.  The Loggers belted four home runs, their most in any game this season, coming off the bats of Nick Maton, Xavier Collier, Aaron Steinhoff, and Brendan Hostettler.  Maton finished 3 for 6, including a double, and scored three runs and drove in two.  Collier (2 for 5) also added a double and finished with five runs batted in.  Steinhoff (2 for 5, 2B) and Hostettler (2 for 3) matched each other with four RBIs each and Peyton Minder had an RBI double.

Rick Dour (2-1), who relieved Logger starter Matt Steinhoff after an inning and two thirds, earned the win pitching four and third innings.  Dour allowed only one unearned run on four hits, three walks, and two strikeouts.

The Loggers will be back in action on Wednesday, April 12th as they host Illinois College at 6pm.
