Loggers Win Two at Vincennes University

The Lincoln Land Baseball Loggers got back to their winning ways saturday, sweeping a double header from the Vincennes University Trailblazers and snapping a four game losing streak.  The Loggers are now 18-7 on the season, and will take on Vincennes again tomorrow in a single nine inning game before heading home.
Â
The Lincoln Land offense produced ten runs on ten hits to back a stellar pitching performance from freshman southpaw Tristan Weaver to win the shortened game one 10-0.  Weaver, now 5-1 on the season, was nearly untouchable in his six inning complete game shutout, allowing only two singles and one walk to go along with his season high fifteen strikeouts.  Nick Maton, Noah Powless (3 rbi), and Jonathan Walder (2 rbi) led the hit parade collecting two hits apiece.  Dalton Fletcher doubled in a run and Michael Ryan added two runs batted in for the Loggers.
Â
Lincoln Land scored four unearned runs in the top of the third inning, giving the Loggers and starting pitcher Devin Smith all they really needed for a 5-1 win in game two.  Logger third baseman Peyton Minder reached on an error with one out in the inning.  Right Fielder Brendan Hostettler followed with a fly out which should have ended the inning.  Logger leadoff man Nick Maton (2 for 3) then tripled to drive in Minder and scored on a wild pitch for a 2-0 lead.  Xavier Collier followed with a solo home run to left, his second of the season, to make it 3-0.  Jonathan Walder was then hit by a pitch, stole second, and scored on a Noah Powless single for the Loggers fourth run.
Â
Vincennes answered in their half of the third with a single run, but that is all they would get on the day. Â Smith (6-0) kept his record perfect on the year, he allowed four hits and three walks in his five innings of work and finished with five strikeouts. Â Sophomore Noah Kesselmayer pitched two clean innings to pick up his second save of the season, he struck out three.
Â
"Great way to rebound coming off a tough weekend last week," coach Riggle said after the games Saturday. Â "Tristan and Devin have been great for us all year, but Tristan was really good today. Â When we send those two guys to the mound, we know that they will give us a great chance to win."Â Â
Â
Tomorrows game is scheduled to start at 12:30pm.
