Loggers Lose Double Header at Heartland

Lincoln Land Lady Loggers were soaked in double header at Heartland, losing 7-6 and 11-3.

The Loggers gave up 4 runs in the first inning of game one on just two hits.  The Hawks scored 3 more in the 3rd inning to lead 7-0. LLCC failed to put runs on the board until the 4th inning, scoring 2 runs when Whitney David doubled in Ella Nelson who ran for Ashton Dyche. Dyche reached first on a hard hit ball back up the middle followed by a Maggie Comerford walk and Katelyn Presley picked up an RBI single driving in Comerford. The Loggers continued to put pressure on the Hawks with a big 4 run inning in the 5th.  Katie McLean led off the inning with a double followed by an RBI single from Kelsie Allen. Dyche and David both walked as Katelyn Presley doubled home both to get with in one run.  In the 7th, Dyche led off with an infield hit off the pitcher.  Maggie Comerford hit a liner to short that resulted in a double play 6-3.  David and Presley each singled to keep the inning alive before Gracie Schweighart was retired on a grounder back to the pitcher.

Katelyn Presley was 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs to lead the Loggers. Katie McLean, Ashton Dyche and Whitney David collected 2 hits each.  Brittany Roady (0-4) was the losing pitcher for the Loggers. Roady allowed 7 runs, 3 earned on 9 hits and 3 Ks in her 6 innings of work. 

The Loggers scored first with 2 runs in the first inning.  The Hawks answered with 5 runs in their half of the first.  LLCC collected 6 hits in game two. The Loggers scored 1 additional run in the 4th.  Heartland had a big 3rd inning, scoring 4 runs and 1 run each in the 4th and 5th innings to win by the 8 run rule.

Ashton Dyche was the only Logger with multiple hits (2-for-4).  Madison Routh was the losing pitcher.  Routh allowed 9 runs on 12 hits with 4 Ks in her 3 innings.  Whitney David allowed 2 runs on 3 hits in 1.33 innings.

"I was happy with our effort in game one with our offense...we didn't give up."  Coach Marsaglia added, "We need to keep the other team from having two or three big innings."  The Loggers posted 16 hits on the day, but allowed our opponents to get 24 hits.
The Loggers dropped to 8-12 on the year and 3-3 in the MWAC.  Heartland and LLCC are scheduled to play tomorrow at 1 pm.
