Softball Sweeps Spoon River, Wins Series 3-1

Lincoln Land Loggers defeated Spoon River in Canton, Illinois 19-17 and 12-3 to win the four game conference series 3-1.

Game one was just like a heavy weight boxing match where punches are thrown back and forth until one falls.  The Loggers came out swinging as they scored 8 runs in the first inning, 4 in the 2nd inning and 3 in the third.  LLCC scored 1 run in the fourth to lead the Snappers 17-5 going into the bottom of the 5th when Spoon River answered with 9 runs on 6 hits, including 3 home runs.  Starting pitcher, Brittany Roady was relieved by Whitney David followed by Jordan Kraft. Sophomore Morgan Heckman hit a game winning two run homer in the top of the 8th, driving in Katie McLean who reached on a hit.  Madison Routh picked up the win in relief as she held the Snappers scoreless.   The Loggers scored 19 runs on 21 hits.  Heckman, Katie McLean and Whitney each homered in game one. McLean, Heckman, Whitney David and Gracie Schweighart each had 3 hits in the slugfest.  Spoon River had six home runs to take the game into extra innings.

Game two, Lincoln Land again came out swinging to win 12-3. The Loggers posted 16 hits including Morgan Heckman's second home run of the day. Freshman pitcher Madison Routh pitched game two going all 7 innings allowing 3 runs on 5 hits for her third win in two days.  Katie McLean, Ashton Dyche, Maggie Comerford and Gracie Schweighart each produced two hits.  Heckman and Whitney David were 3-for-5 and 3-for-4 to lead the Loggers to an easy win over the Snappers.

LLCC will travel to Mineral Area College on Wednesday for a non-conference double header.
