MBB Fall on the Road to John Wood, 70-56

Lincoln Land was unable to avenge an early season blowout loss to John Wood and fell in Quincy against John Wood, 70-56.

One of the Loggers biggest issues in losses this year is that they have gotten themselves in early holes and tonight fit that mold as well. Freshman Trace Gentry made the first bucket of the game to give Lincoln Land their only lead of the game at 3-0. John Wood responded with a 10-0 run to put the Loggers in a fairly deep hole. Points were at a premium early and through the first 10:00 of the game Lincoln Land did not see that deficit grow. However, in the last five minutes of the half John Wood increased their lead to as many as 17 and put the Loggers down by that number at the half 37-20. The Loggers only had 4 players score in the first half and freshmen Trace Gentry and D'Aaron Owens totaled 16 of the Logger's 20.

In the early second half Lincoln Land was unable to cut into the lead by more than a few points and then allowed a small run by the Trail Blazers to put Lincoln Land down by a game high 23 with just under 15:00 left in the game. From there the Loggers found a bit of their stride. Over the next 10:00 Lincoln Land cut the lead down by 20 and after an and one layup and free throw by sophomore Harold Robertson, Lincoln Land trailed by only 3 at 55-52. This is familiar territory for the Loggers who have been finding themselves in a close game in the closing minutes of the game, and again ended in similar results as past games as John Wood was able to go on a 11-2 run over the next four minutes to put the Loggers too far down to recover. Lincoln Land eventually fell 70-56.

Head Coach Chad Jones commented, "We played okay for 10 minutes tonight, great for 10, but unfortunately we played really poorly for 15. We put ourselves too far down to be able to make a successful run back. When you play conference games, especially against one of the top teams, you cannot put yourself in a situation of getting down as much as we did. We fought back and I'm very proud of that effort, but we need that the whole way to win. "

Freshmen led the way for the Loggers as D'Aaron Owens led the way with 15 and Trace Gentry added 14. Gentry also pulled in a team high 8 boards.

Lincoln Land is now 14-11 and 1-6 in MWAC play. The Loggers head out for their last road game of the year on Saturday to take on Danville Area Community College who the Loggers defeated earlier in the season.
