LLCC picked up two wins on Saturday to reach the 20-win plateau for the seventeenth straight season on Saturday, defeating Jackson Community College and ranked Muskegon. Jackson was defeated in straight sets, including a 25-6 drubbing in game two where the Loggers were led in hitting by middles Summer Sabo and Brea Cunningham who combined for 10 of their 20 kills in the match, all while striking a single error. Their swings were possible because of Michelle Ulrich's 13 digs and aggressive serves.
"Against Muskegon, the first thing I told the girls was that they'd beaten Kirkwood this morning. It's why you have to play hard all the time. I think we knew we'd played below our potential yesterday, especially with our serving, and we showed a better focus," Coach Dietz said. The Loggers trailed only twice in the match, both early in game one at 6-7 and 8-10. "The stats don't show that we had a dominant match blocking or that our serving was great. They couldn't get the ball to their leading hitter all match." With Kiersten Anderson still sidelined by injury, LLCC used a 5-1 with Sarah Mueller for the match. "It's a gimmick more than anything since blocking is Sarah's big weakness, but I talked with Kallie (LLCC assistant, Kallie Sinkus), and felt Sarah's leadership skills would cancel that out." It worked well in conjunction with the serving as the Loggers hit over .300 for the match, led by Talesha SScott's 12 killsand Kaylee Beekman's 11.
The Loggers are back in action Tuesday against Southwestern Illinois College at home.
