Illinois Central pounded out 17 hits in game one, including three hits apiece from Andrew Curran, Chet Merritt and Brady Fairfield. The Cougars took and early 4-0 in the bottom of the first inning off Logger starter Chris Robinson. Robinson held the Cougars scoreless after that, keeping the Loggers in the game. Lincoln Land erupted for six runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 6-4 lead. That lead would not be enough, as the Cougars scored two in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings. The Loggers quickly answered with a run in the top of the eighth, only to give it right back in the bottom half. The Cougars scored the walk off winning run in the bottom of the ninth when Curran drove in Fairfield with a two out single to center, winning 8-7.
Logger reliever Logan Reardon (2-2) took the loss, pitching 2 1/3 innings, allowing two runs, on four hits and a walk. Offensively for the Loggers, Tyler Borski was 2 for 4 with an RBI double, Jake Morsch was 2 for 3 with a double, and Peyton Minder drove in two runs.
Lincoln Land flipped the script in game two, hammering out 18 hits on their way to a 15-2 victory. Jake Morsch (2 for 5) led the charge by blasting a grand slam in the top of the first to give Lincoln Land a 4-0 lead. After adding a run in the second inning, the Loggers opened the flood gates with four more runs in the top of the third inning, highlighted by Xavier Collier's (2 for 4) bases loaded double that brought in all three base runners. The Logger offense left no doubt by adding their final six runs in the top of seventh, giving them the 15-2 lead. Conor White (3 for 4) and Tyler Borski (2 for 5) both had doubles in the inning that brought in two runs each, and Sam Anderson (3 for 4) and Morsch had RBI singles.
Sophomore southpaw Tyler Borski (2-1) earned the win for LLCC, hurling four solid innings, allowing one run on three hits, and struck out three. Clay Shourd and Zeke Rowe closed it out on the mound for Lincoln Land.
