The Loggers traveled to Bloomington to take on Heartland Community College in the first set of a four game series. LLCC dropped both games, losing 2-1 in a walk off 7th and 7-4 in the night cap. The Hawks of Heartland scored one run in the first inning of game one on a double by Riley Phipps driving in Cassie Kuizin who reached first on a lead off walk. The Loggers scored their only run in the 3rd inning as Megan Ballegeer reached on a HBP followed by Miranda Esperum walking. Anna Walschleger bunted the runners over and Cinday Garcess drove in Ballegee on a base hit to left. With one out in the 7th, the Megan Spain reached on an error and Cassie Kuizen drove in Spain on a double to center for a walk off win. Morgan Mansur was the losing pitcher. Mansur allowed 2 runs on 4 hits and 3 Ks.
Game two saw the Hawks take the lead 3-0 after two innings of play. Courtney Reeves hit a solo home run in the 4th. Marcy Serrano hit her 2nd home run of the game in the 4th to increase their lead to 4-1. LLCC tied the score 4-4 in the 5th on hits by Miranda Esperum, Jessica Hunt and a 2 out, 2 RBI double by Courtney Reeves. The Hawks answered by scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th to take the lead 7-4 and the eventual win. Jordan Kraft was the losing pitcher for the Loggers. Courtney Reeves was 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs. Jessica Hunt went 2-for-3 as well.
"We just have to keep swinging the bat," said coach John Marsaglia. "Today we made much better contact at the plate, just not falling in for hits. I'm confident that our offense will bust out soon...this is a tough league this year and anyone can win it."
The Loggers will host the Hawks tomorrow in a double header starting at 1:00 pm.
