Baseball Splits at Lewis and Clark

Lincoln Land (8-9) dropped their conference opener on Saturday, losing to Lewis and Clark Community College 8-3 in game one of the double header.  The Logger offense was held to only 6 hits in the nine inning contest due to an outstanding pitching performance by Trail Blazer starting pitcher Nelson Martz.  He worked 8 strong innings while striking out a season high of 10 hitters and walked none.  The Loggers managed their only two runs of the game when first baseman Ben Hecht tripled in Conor white in the top of the 6th inning.  Hecht would also come into score on Jake Morch's RBI ground out.  Xavier Collier was the only Logger with multiple hits, going 2 for 4 with two singles.
 
Lincoln Land freshman Chris Robinson (1-2) took the loss for the Loggers, surrendering 6 earned runs on 10 hits and 2 walks in his 5 innings of work, he also struck out 6. The Trail Blazers got Robinson for 3 runs in the bottom of the first inning and scored 3 more in the bottom of the fifth.
 
The Loggers answered in game two with an 8-3 win to finish the day with a split.  Lincoln Land led the whole way.  With two outs, Ben Hecht (2 for 3) doubled in the top of the first inning and would score on Xavier Collier's (2 for 3) single to score the first run of the game.  The Loggers would score in three more consecutive innings, adding 5 more runs to their lead.  Zeke Rowe and Peyton Minder had RBI singles, while Conor White and Collier drove in runs on sacrifice flys.  Collier would strike again in the top of the 6th inning with another single, driving in two insurance runs to make the score 8-3.
 
Ryan Arnold (2-1) earned the win on the mound for the Loggers.  Arnold scattered 7 hits and 3 walks in 5 innings while striking out 8.  Logan Rearden pitched two scoreless innings in relief to close out the victory.
 
Lincoln Land will host Lewis and Clark in their home opener tomorrow, a doubler header starting at 1pm.
