LLCC started Day Two of the Marshalltown Invitational with a 3-1 win over #11 Ft. Scott., The Loggers struggled in the first game, building a lead of 16-10 before five consecutive unforced errors helped bring the game to a 16-16 tie., That lasted to 21-21 when the Loggers scored four straight to win the set., The second set was similar to the first as an LLCC string of errors gave Ft. Scott a 7-1 lead out of the gate., The Loggers tied it at 15, but then had five more unforced errors before turning on the gas, catching the Greyhounds at 22 before winning 25-23., Game three saw the errors cost LLCC as Ft. Scott jumped to a 5-1 and then 11-3 lead before LLCC began to gel once again, but it was too late and the Greyhounds won 25-14., The fourth game saw the Loggers begin with the serve and very quickly jumped out to an 8-1 lead., They continued to build the lead behind hot hitting by Claire Reinthaler and Brenna Perinar and won the match with a 25-12 victory., "We were very inconsistent all match and it was frustrating" said Coach Jim Dietz., "I talked about having a light switch and that you can't turn it on or off., Good teams don't give up and we saw that in game three."
LLCC closed the day with a straight sets sweep of Marshalltown, a contest that saw all thirteen Loggers get playing time., None of the three games was tied after 8-8., Tiffany Sunderlin led the way with 12 kills and solid serve-receive passing while Izzy Carroll chipped in 14 digs and Sarah Mueller had 4 aces. "We were able to move people around during the match--get experience at multiple positions for kids and we were able to do it without too many mental errors., I was pleased with that and we had a couple great digs by Michelle Ulrich in game three and Izzy had a pancake, too.",, LLCC is back in action Tuesday at Parkland in a Region 24/MWAC tilt with postseason implications.
