DACC Topples the Loggers at Home, 71-55

LLCC – 55
Danville Area Community College – 71

The Lincoln Land Loggers men's basketball team returned home and continued conference season play, but unfortunately fell 71-55 to Danville Area Community College Jaguars.

Lincoln Land was able to play to their strengths in the first half. The Loggers led most statistical categories at that point as Lincoln Land held the edge in shooting, rebounds, and turnovers and held a 29-24 lead at the break. The game remained close and was a back and forth affair that featured 8 lead changes in the first 10 minutes of the second half. Danville was able to take their final lead at that point and closed the game on a 27-10 run. As the game started to get away the Loggers were unable to stop the run. They remained close enough to keep within striking distance, but in the last 4 minutes the Jaguars of Danville pulled away by 10 points to close the game.

After the final horn sounded Lincoln Land had lost their advantage in all categories with the exception of turnovers. Danville was able to outrebound the Loggers in the game by 5, and outshot the Loggers from the field and three point arc. Lincoln Land finished the game only shooting 37% from the field and 29% from three, going 1/7 (14%) in the second half.

"We were right there, but didn't do the simple things down the stretch. We turned the ball over three times after time-outs and didn't box out on two free throws. Those things can't happen in close games and you won't win if you commit those small mistakes. If we hone in down the stretch we can be in these games," reflected Coach Chad Jones after the game.

Freshman Eddie Longmeyer led the Loggers in scoring with 13 and Sophomore Justin Thomas added 10. Longemeyer pulled down a game high 8 rebounds, but committed 7 turnovers in the loss. Danville's Cayman Meier led all scorer with 23 points.

Lincoln Land falls to 13-8 and 0-2 in the conference.

Lincoln Land stays at home as they take on conference opponent Illinois Central CollegeSaturday afternoon at Cass Gymnasium.
